Art Over Dinner ft. Decatur Book Festival & Daren Wang

In February, 2005 Daren Wang hatched a hare-brained idea to establish a festival celebrating the spoken/written word. He enlisted other dreamers and doers who had hatched versions of the same idea including Tom Bell, Linda Harris, Richard Lenz, Alice Murray, Bill Starr and Judy Turner. Together, using a stone soup model, everyone brought what they had and the magic began brewing.

The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the largest independent book festival in the country and one of the five largest overall.

Join us as we explore the development of such an important festival as well as the career, new book, and musings of Exec. Director & Author, Daren Wang.

Khalilah Birdsong is a painter with a studio practice based in Atlanta, Georgia. The scale and evidence of physicality of her paintings echoes Alfred Leslie, Joan Mitchell, Jean Riopelle and the late abstract paintings of Gerhard Richter.

Art Over Dinner is a series of intimate gatherings with artists and the organizations that support their work. We collaborate with the chefs at HomespunATL and local farmers to bring a seasonal meal that showcases winemakers and brewers, and invite our guest artists to spark the conversation at one long farm table on the outdoor deck of The Art Farm at Serenbe.

AOD: WonderRoot

WonderRoot is an arts organization that works to improve the cultural and social landscape of Atlanta through creative initiatives and community partnerships. The anchor of our organization is the WonderRoot Center for Arts and Social Change - a full-service facility that supports artists, offers public programming and brings diverse voices together to envision and activate a stronger Atlanta. Art and artists have been on the front lines of advancing social change, so for dinner WonderRoot will lead a discussion about the role of arts, culture and youth in social movements in the United States.
